The Thousands of Ghana Cedis Ministry of Youth and Sports Mobile App that Put up ‘No Show’ Reviewed!

Did you know Ghana’s Ministry of Youth and Sports developed a mobile app to help Ghanaians access information on Brazil 2014 world cup and other national and international event?

Well, after the cost of the App and a website was made known to be 22,857.00 Ghana cedis, I decided to review the app and see if it is worth it.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports app was developed by Mondo Bloom, same developer who developed Chase Ghana, Holiday Inn and the One Ghana App, all available in the Google play store.

The android (2.2) only run app was last updated on the 23rd of April, 2014. It is a Size: 5.2MB app with a current version of 1.405.

Interestingly, the app, which according to the description is supposed to be the official information source from the ministry for all on-going national and international competitions where Ghana is represented has a low content maturity rate and only 100 downloads with a 2.5 rating by 2 people.

The app takes some time to load, when finished, it leads the user to a slide show that displays the images of Ghana’s President, John Mahama, Black stars coach Akwasi Appiah, Former Minister of Youth and sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, et al. And surprisingly ‘Brazil here we come’ is still there…hmmm

Additionally, app users are to have an exclusive opportunity to photos of competitions, a voice recording feature for recurring competitions, social Integration features and a GPS location features for key locations in and outside Ghana relevant to on-going sports competitions.

Ironically, Ghana featured in Glasgow Olympics and that was not featured? Was it not an international event? Even the app has less information about the Ghana village and Fans parks the nation spent money to put up to brand Ghana. The Brazil pictures are irrelevant and do not feed users with the ‘excitement’ that went on in Brazil.

Including what the so called Ambassadors went to do.

The app is absolutely irrelevant and totally outrageous to spend such an amount for an app (and a website) which was developed for millions of Ghanaians and the world, but had only a 100 downloads!

But i must admit that the news feature of the app is updated and shows current sports news from external links like Ghana Web, SpyGhana, Vibe Ghana and GBC platforms.

If you have time, just download the app and review it yourself here and a review of the website soon!
